GameBoy Color Test Cartridge
This cartridge was a replacement that was given to servicers in order to test the Gameboy Color systems. Judging by the label, it is likely that these were originally manufactured for use in Japan, and were shipped to the US bearing the original label (probably due to a rush in production time as the Centers were in need of a way to test the new GameBoy system color displays). When powered on, the unit takes you through a series of three main selections to test for dead pixels or debris within the screen, button functionality, and sound respectively.
This particular cartridge is Version 1.1 of the test program and runs through an automatic test rather than being able to choose a function through a main menu. While using a Gameboy Advance SP, a DMG test is performed, followed by a variety of screen and sound tests (All of these tests are prompted with the A button). Some interesting screen highlights include ten racoon marios running in a box pattern around a giant 3-D pillar and the start screens of Super Mario Land and Alleyway. There is a lengthy button test and then the cartridge restarts itself into a continuous test that requires no buttons to be pressed. This way it can be used as a burn-in cartridge to check for possible hardware failures if the system is run for an extended period of time.
