By the time the GameCube had come out in 2001, Nintendo was finding that customers were using their Service locations less and less. This was through no fault of the Service Shops; most customers were making the decision to send out their products via the mail in return for a faster and less intrusive repair experience. This trend, coupled with the fact of the rising costs and sophistication of gaming technology is what ultimately led to the dismissal of the Service Centers by Nintendo.
